I photographed the mural at 21st and Market, painted by artist, Mario Torero.
This mural is like a mirror to the inhabitants of Barrio Sherman which is now Golden Hills.
It depicts people shaking hands, la Virgen de Guadalupe, an Aztec warrior carrying a woman, pyramids, Quetzalcoatl, and Emiliano Zapata among the multitude of images.
In a sense, the mural is a timeline of Chicano history from 15th-century Mesoamerica to today. Looking at it, I feel a huge sense of pride to have Mexican roots. Despite being labeled as a minority, the number of Latinos reflect otherwise. We are a majority of people and have the ability to change the current systems put in place.
